Information has emerged regarding upcoming AirPods equipped with cameras. Data discovered in a pre-release version of macOS 26.7 shows a video of a user wearing the headphones while discussing a book they are holding with Siri. According to the audio, a 'Visual Intelligence' feature will allow the system to recognize objects to store information.
The code also references a 'Hair Detected' error, which triggers if hair obstructs the camera's view. Despite user concerns regarding privacy, experts note that the cameras in the AirPods are not intended for photography or video recording. Instead, they will act as 'eyes' for the updated Siri voice assistant, allowing the device to analyze the surrounding environment in low resolution.
This new functionality is expected to be part of the iOS 27 updates scheduled for September. To ensure transparency, Apple plans to equip the headphones with an LED indicator that will light up when visual data is being transmitted to the cloud. The company's strategy is to make AI interaction more natural, reducing the need to constantly rely on a smartphone screen.
