During a campaign event in Georgia on Tuesday, Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff launched a sharp attack against Donald Trump, labeling him a "draft-dodging, criminal president." Ossoff made the remarks while defending Senator and former US Navy Captain Mark Kelly, whom he described as the embodiment of American heroism. Kelly's wife, former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, joined Ossoff and Kelly at the event.
The conflict between Trump and Kelly began last year when Kelly and five other Democratic lawmakers released a video message reminding members of the US military that they are not obligated to follow illegal orders. In response, Trump called for the arrest of the lawmakers, accusing them of seditious behavior.
Earlier on Sunday in Atlanta, Ossoff also criticized Trump over his actions regarding the US-Israeli conflict with Iran and mentioned his executive assistant, Natalie Harp. The White House and Trump himself responded to these attacks by publicly insulting the senator.
Jon Ossoff is currently running for re-election to the US Senate from Georgia and is also viewed by experts as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
