A 20-year-old tourist from Portugal was killed early Tuesday morning in the resort town of Ksamil in southern Albania. According to Albanian state broadcaster RTSH, police have detained 11 suspects in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. local time. A dispute that began inside the Principote bar spilled over onto the beach area near another establishment, Paradise. Four bar employees and another man attacked the victim. The Portuguese national died on a sun lounger from stab wounds.
The primary suspect is a 29-year-old man with a prior conviction for drug trafficking in the UK. He was caught hiding in the trunk of a car in the village of Levan while trying to flee to Tirana. Two Turkish nationals, aged 31 and 38, were charged with harboring a fugitive for aiding his escape attempt.
Those implicated also include venue security guards, among whom were active public servants—a police officer, a prison officer, and a municipal officer. They made no attempt to prevent the attack nor did they report it to law enforcement. Police are currently searching for the fugitive bar owner and another participant in the brawl.
